Via de' Tornabuoni was once intersected by the ancient Roman city walls. In the 12th century, when the walls were expanded, the street also gradually widened and had several different names over time. After the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Via de' Tornabuoni became a key route from Palazzo Pitti to Ponte Santa Trinita, and it also hosted various events, including football matches and horse races. The street is home to several historically significant buildings, such as Palazzo Ferroni-Spini, Basilica di Santa Trinita, Cappella Sassetti, Palazzo Strozzi, and Chiesa di San Gaetano.

Since the Renaissance, Via de' Tornabuoni has been one of the most elegant streets in Florence, and today it remains known for its high-end fashion and jewelry boutiques.
