Ponte Santa Trinita

Ponte Santa Trinita is located in the heart of Florence, Italy. It is a limestone bridge that spans the Arno River and dates back to 1566, making it the oldest elliptical arch bridge in the world. Constructed during the Renaissance period, it stands adjacent to the Ponte Vecchio to the east and the Ponte alla Carraia to the west.

Originally built between 1567 and 1569 by the Florentine architect Bartolomeo Ammanati, Ponte Santa Trinita was an important element of Florence's medieval street plan. Unfortunately, the bridge was destroyed by retreating German forces on August 8, 1944. It was rebuilt in 1958 using many of the original stones recovered from the Arno River or quarried from the same source. Renowned as one of the most beautiful bridges in the world, its distinctive features include three elegant elliptical arches and wedge-shaped piers, making it one of Florence’s most photogenic landmarks.
