Palazzo Spini Feroni

Palazzo Spini Feroni is situated in Piazza Santa Trinita in Florence, Italy. Constructed in 1289, it was built by the wealthy cloth merchant and banker Geri Spini on land he acquired from the monks of the Basilica of Santa Trinita following the 1288 Arno River flood.

As one of the grandest medieval private palaces in Florence, Palazzo Spini Feroni was the most luxurious and largest private residence of its time, rivaling the nearby Palazzo Vecchio, which served as the government seat and was built around the same period. The palace’s original façade can be seen in the Ghirlandaio frescoes inside the Sassetti Chapel of the Basilica of Santa Trinita. The building once functioned as a hotel. In 1846, the City of Florence purchased it and used it as government offices during Florence’s tenure as the capital of Italy. In 1874, it was partially remodeled in Neo-Medieval style, with shops opened on the ground floor, giving it its current appearance.

In the 1930s, Palazzo Spini Feroni was acquired by Salvatore Ferragamo. Since 1995, the second floor of the palace has housed a museum dedicated to the renowned shoe designer, showcasing his exquisite footwear designs.
