Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute
Introduction: The Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute is a masterpiece of Venetian Baroque architecture. In 1630, during the outbreak of the plague, the Republic decided to build this church in dedication to the Virgin Mary. It was designed by the renowned architect Baldassare Longhena and officially completed in 1687.
The main hall, topped with a massive dome, has an octagonal shape and is surrounded by six chapels. Inside the sacristy, which faces the main altar, you can find the fresco "David and Goliath" depicting a story from the Old Testament, ceiling paintings by Titian, and Tintoretto’s "The Wedding at Cana"—all are notable works of art worth admiring. Transportation: Take water bus line 1 and get off at the SALUTE stop. Ticket/Opening Hours: Free; admission to the sacristy is 1.5 euros. Opening hours: 9:00–12:00, 15:00–18:00
