Ca' Rezzonico

Ca' Rezzonico is a palace on the Grand Canal in Venice, currently serving as a public museum showcasing 18th-century Venetian art. The Ca' Rezzonico is a three-story marble palace facing the canal. The ground floor features a recessed portico, above which lies the first main floor with seven arched windows divided by pilasters, and the second main floor above that is almost identical, while the top floor has low oval windows. Two terraces project slightly from the main floors, highlighting the Baroque ornamentation and architectural design.

The main rooms of the palace are arranged on the first main floor, along the famous canal facade, with all floors being only three rooms wide. Each side of the building contains four large salons extending from the Grand Canal facade to the palace’s largest room—the magnificent ballroom at the rear. This room, designed by Massari, features double height. The wall decorations by Lombard Pietro Visconti use trompe-l'œil effects to make the hall appear larger than it actually is. The ceiling painting is by Giovanni Battista Crosato, depicting Apollo riding his chariot across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The staircase leading to the ballroom and the grand salons is adorned with marble balustrades featuring sculptures by Giusto Le Court, a leading Venetian sculptor of the late 17th century.
