You may have heard of the Doge's Palace in Genoa, Italy, but the one in Venice is even more stunning. From a distance, the Doge's Palace in Venice is fronted by emerald-green waters, while the staggered columns at the base of the building exude a unique charm. This Venetian Gothic structure has become one of the most iconic landmarks in Venice, northern Italy.

The Doge's Palace in Venice once served as a government building and courthouse, as well as the residence of the Doge of Venice. To the south lies the Venetian Lagoon, to the west is St. Mark's Square, and to the north is St. Mark's Basilica. The current version of the Doge's Palace that visitors see was primarily built between 1309 and 1424. In 1574, the palace was severely damaged by a fire. Although Andrea Palladio submitted a design in the Neoclassical style, the subsequent reconstruction retained the original Gothic style, though with some Classical elements—for example, since the 16th century, the palace has been connected to the prison via the Bridge of Sighs.

Since 1923, the Doge's Palace has been open to the public as a museum. Here, visitors can admire paintings depicting Venice by Tintoretto and Veronese, attracting large numbers of tourists every year.
