Palazzo Grassi

Palazzo Grassi is a building located on Venice's Grand Canal, designed by classical architecture master Giorgio Massari and constructed between 1748 and 1772. Compared to other buildings, although this one arrived late, it has become one of the most important structures in Venice.

Built in the academic Classical Revival style, Palazzo Grassi stands apart from the surrounding Baroque and Byzantine-Romanesque buildings and boasts the façade of a palace. The structure was built with white marble, began changing ownership in 1840, and went through various owners before undergoing extensive restoration and becoming an exhibition space for visual arts. Between 1984 and 1990, Palazzo Grassi was purchased by Pontus Hultén and operated as an art museum displaying artworks, also featuring an outdoor theater with 600 seats.

Starting in 2006, Palazzo Grassi came under the ownership of French entrepreneur François Pinault, who used it to showcase his personal art collection. It was also the place where his son François-Henri Pinault met and married actress Salma Hayek.
