Cherbourg-Octeville is a city located in the Manche department of the Lower Normandy region in northwestern France, and is the most populous city in the department. The city was formed on February 28, 2000, through the merger of Cherbourg and Octeville, and is an important port city.

Cherbourg-Octeville is a city full of historical and cultural charm, home to several museums. Among them, the Musée d'art Thomas Henry is the third finest art museum in the Normandy region, housing 300 works from the 15th to the 21st century. The WWII Memorial Museum (Musée de la Libération), the Museum Emmanuel-Liais which showcases natural history, archaeology, and ethnography, and the Cité de la Mer, dedicated to marine history and science, are all well worth visiting.

Also not to be missed are the Cherbourg Harbor with its 3,700-meter-long breakwater, beautiful beaches, the botanical garden, the modern art center opened in 2008, and numerous church buildings.
