Dunkirk is located in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France, bordering the United Kingdom and Belgium. It is a port city in northeastern France near the Belgian border, the third-largest port in France after Le Havre and Marseille, as well as an industrial city. It is world-famous for the Battle of Dunkirk and the large-scale evacuation of Allied forces during World War II.
