Villeneuve-d'Ascq is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is also a major city in the Nord department of the Hauts-de-France region and an important economic hub of the area. The city is home to several renowned universities and research institutes, such as a campus of the University of Lille I and the University of Lille III.

Villeneuve-d'Ascq is a vibrant city, featuring numerous historic buildings, two well-known modern stadiums, a grand theater, multiple museums, large shopping centers, beautiful parks and green spaces, as well as a rich variety of cultural events. Among them, the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, built in 1976, has a capacity of 50,186 spectators. The 4,000-square-meter art museum, constructed in 1983, is the only museum in Europe that simultaneously showcases 20th and 21st-century contemporary art alongside non-Western art. Its collection mainly includes paintings, sculptures, photography, illustrations, and electronic media — definitely not to be missed.
