Douai is a city and sub-prefecture in the Nord department of northern France, located on the Scarpe River. It is about 40 km from Lille, 106 km from Brussels, 176 km from Paris, and 258 km from London. Historically an important industrial city, it is now a major transportation and commercial hub.

Douai is a city worth visiting. The Gothic belfry of Douai, which dates back to 1380, is especially impressive with its 80-meter height and carillon of 62 bells. The Valenciennes Gate (Porte de Valenciennes), built in 1453 with one side in Gothic style and the other in neoclassical design, still speaks to the city's important military past. The Fine Arts Museum, housed in a former monastery, boasts a permanent collection that showcases the evolution of European painting from the Middle Ages to modern times, along with regular temporary exhibitions. In addition, visitors can enjoy performances at the historic theater or stroll through the beautiful Bertin Park.
