Arras

Arras is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France. It is the prefecture (capital) of the Pas-de-Calais department, located on the Scarpe River, approximately 182 kilometers from Paris. Historically the center of the Artois region, today it is a city renowned for its architecture, culture, and history, attracting thousands of visitors every year.

The most famous attractions in Arras include the magnificent Town Hall, the belfry (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the underground gardens, the Grand Place, the Place des Héros, and the Citadel. The site of the former abbey is home to many impressive buildings, including the Fine Arts Museum and several government buildings. The Fine Arts Museum houses a large collection of paintings, sculptures, and other artworks in various styles.

The abbey church was rebuilt in 1883 in a classical style, featuring many right angles and a simple structure. Inside the church, there are numerous intricate carvings and several relics. In addition, the botanical garden with its wide variety of alpine plants, the Vimy Memorial commemorating the battles of World War I, and the Christmas market held in November are also not to be missed.
