Boulogne-sur-Mer is a port city on the coast of the English Channel in the Pas-de-Calais department of the Hauts-de-France region in northern France. It serves as the sub-prefecture of the Pas-de-Calais department, is the second-largest city in the department, and ranks as the 59th largest city in France as well as its largest fishing port.

The 12th-century belfry of Boulogne-sur-Mer, which is listed as a World Heritage Site, is the oldest building in the upper town and now houses a museum showcasing Celtic relics from the Roman occupation period. The medieval castle dating back to Roman times boasts a rich collection of Egyptian art. Notre-Dame Cathedral features a dome over 100 meters high and the largest crypt in France. Other noteworthy sites include the Nausicaä National Sea Centre, opened in 1991, the Gothic-style Church of St. Nicholas, the statue of Napoleon I, and the cemetery.
