Introduction

The Brasília Cathedral of Light features a design with cement supports and glass curtain walls, making it the brightest cathedral in the world. Its shape symbolizes a group of people holding up a cross.

Most European churches are decorated with various reliefs on the outside and have dimly lit interiors that give off a mysterious and solemn atmosphere. The Brasília Cathedral of Light breaks with tradition — its exterior has clean, simple lines, while the interior is bright and spacious, embodying a modern vibe. The main structure of the church is underground, with the "roof" situated above ground. This roof consists of dozens of parabolic columns bundled together, resembling from afar a "crown" made of bird feathers worn by an indigenous Brazilian chief. The crown is surrounded by pools of water. When sunlight hits the water, the rippling reflections shimmer through the church’s glass windows, casting a flickering glow inside that creates an atmosphere both mysterious and delightful.
