The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts was established in 1897 and is one of Canada’s most influential fine art museums, as well as the country’s oldest museum. The museum’s façade is built from white marble, and its understated bas-relief decorations and grand colonnaded portico give it a dignified and majestic appearance. The museum’s collection includes paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and ancient artifacts from various times and styles around the world. It also hosts major exhibitions both in Canada and internationally, attracting numerous art enthusiasts.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts boasts an extensive and diverse collection, with works spanning ancient to contemporary times spread across 65 galleries. Its more than 30,000 permanent pieces include oil paintings, watercolors, bronze works, plaster art, and ceramic art, featuring masterpieces by renowned artists such as Picasso, Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Renoir, and Cézanne. In addition to its core collection of European paintings and sculptures, the museum also features outstanding works by Canadian artists—especially those from the modern and contemporary periods—as well as Indigenous artists such as the Inuit, for whom it has dedicated exhibition spaces and special shows.
