Mount Royal

Mount Royal is a hill in Montreal, Canada, located on the northern side of the city center. The city of Montreal is also named after this hill. With its highest peak reaching an elevation of 233 meters, the hill has been developed into Mount Royal Park, one of the largest parks in Montreal. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed New York's Central Park.

At the summit stands the famous Mount Royal Cross. This cross is not only imposing but also holds special significance as the guardian symbol of the local people. It is said that no building in Montreal may be taller than this cross atop the mountain. There are two large cemeteries on the mountain: the Catholic Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery and the non-denominational Mount Royal Cemetery (which primarily buries Protestants)—both are quite spectacular. From Mount Royal, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Montreal. On the slopes outside the park, you’ll find St. Joseph's Oratory, the largest church in Canada, McGill University along with its two teaching hospitals and sports stadium, the University of Montreal, École Polytechnique de Montréal, and some upscale residential neighborhoods such as Westmount and Outremont.
