The Basilica of Notre-Dame was built in 1829 as a Roman Catholic minor basilica, located at the corner of Old Montreal and Saint-Sulpice Street in Canada, adjacent to the Sulpician Seminary, facing Place d'Armes. It is an iconic building in Montreal. The Basilica is built in the Gothic Revival style, with a magnificent and colorful interior — the ceiling is a deep blue adorned with golden stars, while other areas feature shades of blue, red, purple, silver, and gold.

The church's interior is decorated with elaborate murals, and numerous paintings and stained-glass windows depict significant historical events in Montreal. The basilica houses hundreds of wooden carvings, giving it a distinctive appearance. What makes the Basilica of Notre-Dame unique is that its stained glass does not depict biblical scenes, but rather scenes from Montreal’s religious history. It is considered one of the finest and most beautiful churches in Montreal. The church also features the famous Casavant Frères organ and a massive low-pitched bell known as the Gros Bourdon, adding to its majestic and awe-inspiring atmosphere.
