The Montreal Botanical Garden was established in 1931, facing the Olympic Stadium Montreal, and is a large botanical garden in the city, covering an area of 75 acres. It was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 2008. With its wide variety of cultivated plants and comprehensive facilities, it is hailed as one of the most important botanical gardens in the world.

The Montreal Botanical Garden houses over 22,000 species and cultivars of plants and more than 900,000 specimens, making it one of the largest botanical gardens in North America and a highly popular destination. The garden features a greenhouse where plants from around the world are grown. Every year from February to April, the annual “Butterflies Go Free” exhibition takes place here, allowing visitors to enjoy not only the plants but also a colorful array of fluttering butterflies. The diverse plant life at the Montreal Botanical Garden makes it a place of ever-changing vibrant colors and fragrant blooms throughout the seasons.

The garden is divided into a Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, Rock Garden, and First Nations Garden. The Chinese Garden is a classic example of a traditional Chinese garden, featuring Chinese potted plants and is the largest of its kind outside of China. The Japanese Garden showcases Japanese plants and includes a dedicated space that explains the Japanese tea ceremony, with performances often held during the summer. The First Nations Garden displays native Canadian plants, with lush maple, birch, and pine trees lining the pathways, along with several totem poles showcasing Indigenous art.

The Montreal Botanical Garden is a magical world of plants, with its colorful and enchanting flora providing visual delight. The garden also houses a unique insectarium where, in addition to displayed specimens, visitors can observe a variety of live insects from around the world.
