Founded in 1992 on a genuine archaeological excavation site, the Montreal Archaeology and History Complex is both a national historic landmark and the birthplace of Montreal. The museum showcases historical relics from the First Nations of the Montreal region and narrates the impact of French and British rule on the area’s history and culture through the years.

Since its opening, the Montreal Archaeology and History Complex has attracted 350,000 visitors annually. From 1992 to the present, approximately 4.5 million people have visited this historically rich museum, which has received over 50 national and international awards. Its permanent collection spans artifacts from Montreal’s prehistoric period to the present, all related to the city’s history, with a mission to preserve and exhibit these historically valuable items. The permanent exhibitions are divided into three sections: how Montreal was born, stories about Montreal, and a multimedia presentation about Montreal. The museum also hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions, offering visitors deeper insights into the history and culture of this ancient city.

The museum also offers the public a range of educational and cultural activities, including music performances, lectures, and debates, enriching cultural life while meeting people's needs for art and culture.
