Vancouver Museum

The Vancouver Museum was established in 1894 and is located in Vanier Park, south of downtown. It is the largest municipal museum in Canada. The museum aims to "enhance the aesthetic and refined sensibilities of people's lives" by using exhibits to elevate public appreciation of art.

The museum’s architecture is unique — some say its conical roof resembles a UFO, while others believe it draws inspiration from the woven cedar hats of Indigenous peoples of Canada’s Northwest Coast. However, the themed sculpture in front of the museum is indeed related to Indigenous culture. The Vancouver Museum primarily showcases the development history of British Columbia, featuring a collection of early historical artifacts, Indigenous artworks, photographs of early towns, and archaeological materials. In addition to local collections, it also houses Egyptian mummies. Most of these exhibits were gathered by Vancouver residents from around the world, with a small portion acquired from Egypt during World War I.
