The Vancouver Maritime Museum is located in Vanier Park and was established in 1959. It focuses on showcasing Vancouver’s maritime history and is one of Canada’s most important maritime museums. For 50 years, this museum has been a key place to learn about the Pacific Canadian region’s maritime-related history, culture, art, and industry.

The Vancouver Maritime Museum is very popular, attracting around 100,000 visitors annually, with the peak tourist season from May to October. The museum houses a collection of over 170,000 items, including 35,000 artifacts, 20,000 books, 262 original oil paintings, and 114,000 photographs, allowing visitors to explore Vancouver’s maritime heritage through physical exhibits and historical photos. Among the museum’s main highlights is the historic ship St. Roch, which was used by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to explore the Arctic. In addition to this historically significant vessel, the museum also displays a large number of ship models—many made of cardboard or paper—as well as containers, clocks, nautical charts, and other fascinating exhibits.
