The National Gallery of Canada was established in 1988 and is the country’s premier art museum. It is one of Canada’s most important art exhibition venues and also a landmark of the city of Ottawa. The artworks in the gallery come mainly from two sources: donations and purchases, but most of the collection is donated.

The National Gallery of Canada houses an extensive and diverse collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photographs. While the museum's collection primarily focuses on Canadian art, it also includes numerous works by renowned European masters. Additionally, it features some of Andy Warhol’s most famous contemporary artworks. The gallery’s exhibition areas mainly consist of two levels: the first floor showcases works by Canadian painters, offering a comprehensive overview of the history of Canadian art; the second floor displays a number of religious paintings from the Italian Renaissance, as well as works from the German and Dutch schools. Visitors can choose what to see based on their interests.
