Introduction: There are about seven hundred tombs in the ancient city of Petra, but the most famous are the Royal Tombs. Among them, the largest is the Urn Tomb. The tomb chamber is square, 18 meters high, and 20 meters long and wide. When you speak inside, the echo reverberates endlessly. During the Roman occupation period, an arched structure was added below, where offices for judicial officials and a prison were established. At that time, it was the site of the highest judicial authority of the Petra region under the Roman Empire, so it was later called the “Court.” In 446 AD, it was converted into an Eastern Orthodox church. Moving to the right from the Urn Tomb, you will find the Royal Tomb, Corinthian Tomb, Palace Tomb, and the Sextuple-Petal Tomb. These five tombs carved into the mountainside were the burial sites of several generations of kings and nobles of the Nabataean Kingdom. Perched high above, they are grand and majestic, reflecting the supreme power of the kings.
