Xidian Village Ruins

The Xidian Village Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected by Taiyuan City.

The ruins of Xidian Village are located on the northern terrace of Xidian Village, Donghuangshui Town, Yangqu County. The site stretches approximately 2,000 meters from east to west and about 200 meters from north to south, covering a total area of around 400,000 square meters. On the northern cliff of the site, a cultural layer about 0.5 to 1.8 meters thick is exposed, where artifacts such as gray pottery shards with sand inclusions and rope patterns from the Yangshao Culture have been collected. Artifacts collected from the surface include the bottom of a red clay basket-patterned jar from the Longshan Culture period and gray pottery shards with sand inclusions and additional stacked patterns.

Xidian Village, where the ruins are located, lies in the central plain of Yangqu County. To the east are Hong?_ Mountain and Liangling Mountain, and to the south is Banshi Mountain. The Donghe River is located 500 meters east of the village. The area has a temperate continental monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 8–9°C and an average annual rainfall of 450 mm. The terrace where the ruins are situated is currently used for farmland, surrounded by flat land.

Evaluation of the Value of Xidian Village Ruins

The Xidian Village Ruins cover a large area and possess relatively rich cultural content. Based on the collected samples, they are identified as Neolithic cultural remains, including artifacts from both the Yangshao Culture and Longshan Culture periods. The distribution characteristics are clear, and the site contains abundant buried relics and artifacts, making it an important prehistoric cultural site.
