Zhonggang Site

The Zhonggang Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Taiyuan City.

The Zhonggang Site is situated on the Zhonggang Plateau north of Guange duo Village, Huangzhai Town, Yangqu County. It spans approximately 500 meters from east to west and 400 meters from north to south, covering a total area of about 200,000 square meters. It contains cultural remains from the Neolithic Age and the Eastern Zhou Period. Surface collections include gray pottery fragments with basket patterns from the Longshan Culture period, as well as gray and sandy gray pottery with rope patterns, such as jars and li tripod fragments from the Eastern Zhou Period.

Guange duo Village, where the Zhonggang Site is located, lies in the plateau area in the southern part of Huangzhai Town. To the west is Qizi Mountain, and to the east is the Yangxing River, about 2 kilometers away. The area has a warm temperate continental monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 8.8°C, average annual precipitation of 458 mm, a frost-free period of 159 days, abundant sunshine, and distinct seasons. The site is located on Zhonggang, bordered by Sanye Liang to the north, Xichagou to the east, Xigou to the west, and Wanglaogou to the south.

The Zhonggang Site is an important newly discovered site from the Third National Cultural Relics Census. It covers a large area and has relatively rich cultural content. Based on the collected samples, it includes remains from the Longshan Culture of the Neolithic Age and the Eastern Zhou Culture. In terms of cultural content, it spans a long period and is rich in content, representing an important ancient settlement site. It holds significant importance for studying the development and changes of ancient settlement sites.

Guange duo Village: Located in the northern part of Yangqu County, Guange duo Village is just two kilometers east of the Dayun Highway, offering very convenient transportation. It administers four natural villages: Guange duo, Dongcai, Xicai, and Shangan, with a total of 383 households, 930 residents, and 410 labor forces. The village covers a total area of 14,120 mu, including 5,519 mu of arable land. The main crops planted are corn, millet, and small grains. In 2013, the per capita income was 6,157 yuan.
