Attraction Introduction

Situated on the northern slope of the Trans-Ili Alatau in the Tien Shan mountain range, at an altitude of 1,691 meters and 18 kilometers from Almaty, the mountain provides a breathtaking view of the city. It is also home to the world’s largest high-altitude winter sports complex, which was constructed in 1972 and awarded the USSR State Prize in 1975.

The ice rink covers an area of 10,500 square meters with ice that is 2.3 meters thick, making it usable nearly year-round. Due to its excellent conditions, it has been hailed as "the best ice rink in the world" and "the cradle of record-breaking performances." Surrounding the rink are star-rated hotels, a swimming pool, restaurants, bars, and cafes. Between the two mountains lies a dam built to prevent mudflows. Construction began in 1964 and was completed in 1980. The dam stands at an altitude of 1,750 meters, with a height of 150 meters, a length of 530 meters, and a base width of 800 meters.

The staircase leading to the top of the dam consists of 841 steps and is a world-renowned tourist attraction.
