Former Residence of Zhang Zheng

The former residence of Zhang Zheng is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of General Zhang Zheng is located in Chini She Village, Nitun Town, Yangqu County, covering a construction area of 600 square meters. Zhang Zheng (1915–2005), also known as Zhang Gonghan and Zhang Zhen, was from Yangqu, Shanxi. He joined the Sacrifice League in 1936 and the Communist Party of China in 1938. During the War of Resistance against Japan, he served as head of the political organization section of the 1st Column of the Eighth Route Army, deputy section chief of the political organization department of the Shandong Column, director of the political department and head of the organizational section of the 26th Regiment of the 9th Brigade of the 3rd Division of the New Fourth Army, and political commissar of the 25th Regiment. During the Liberation War, he held positions such as political commissar of the 17th Regiment of the 6th Division of the 2nd Column of the East China Field Army, and director of the political department directly under the 7th Corps of the 3rd Field Army. He participated in battles and campaigns including Jiehe, Taizhuang, Subei, Linqu, the Yannan Campaign, and the Huaihai Campaign. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as deputy political commissar of the Jinhua Military Sub-district in Zhejiang Province, political commissar of the 63rd Division of the 21st Army, head of the organizational department and commander of the Second Brigade of the Political Department of the PLA Political College, and deputy political commissar of the Logistics Department of the Fuzhou Military Region. He was promoted to the rank of Major General in 1964. He was awarded the Second Class Independent Freedom Medal, the Second Class Liberation Medal, and the First Class Red Star Meritorious Service Medal. The residence currently has eight rooms remaining, with multiple sections of the courtyard wall collapsed and overgrown with weeds.

Zhang Zheng (1915–1995), from Nanliangzhuang, joined the Communist Party of China in 1936. The following year, he studied at the political department of the Second Regiment of the Shanxi National Soldiers' Officers Training Corps in Fenyang County. In January 1938, he returned to his home county to serve as an officer of the Pingyao County Branch of the Shanxi Sacrifice League. In July of the same year, he became head of the Armed Affairs Department of the Anti-Japanese Democratic Government of the county, and later served as head of the county’s Trade Bureau, Industry and Commerce Bureau, and Economic Bureau. Chini She Village: Located between Yaoshi Village and Longquan Village, Chini She Village is the source of the Fen River water system within Nitun. The village has a total of 1,454 mu of arable land and a population of 224.
