Brunei Museum

The Brunei Museum is the national museum of Brunei and the largest museum in the country. It is located on Kota Batu Road, approximately 4 kilometers from the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan. The museum is built in an Islamic architectural style, with carvings and designs inspired by Bruneian and Malaysian motifs, which are also found in the tomb chamber of Sultan Bolkiah.

The Brunei Museum houses an extremely rich collection and serves as a significant archaeological site for gaining a comprehensive understanding of Brunei. Its exhibits range from various historical materials to exquisite handicrafts including pottery, glass ornaments, silverware, and copperware, as well as models of oil fields and oil rigs that showcase the development of Brunei’s oil industry. Through these exhibitions, the museum strives to preserve and promote Brunei’s traditional customs and certain craftsmanship techniques, also bearing witness to the development of various sectors in the country. Since 1969, the museum has also published the Brunei Museum Journal and an academic journal annually.
