Sultan's Silver Jubilee Memorial

Brunei is a "sovereign, democratic, and independent Malay Muslim Monarchy." The Brunei Constitution stipulates that the Sultan is the head of state, wielding all supreme executive powers and the authority to enact laws, while also serving as the religious leader. The country has five councils: Religious, Privy, Cabinet, Legislative, and Succession (after gaining independence in 1984, some were discontinued, with the Cabinet Council evolving into the Cabinet government), assisting the Sultan in governance.

The Sultan's Silver Jubilee Memorial, also known as the Sultan's Memorial, was built in 1992 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sultan's accession to the throne. Located in the heart of the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, it was created through the renovation and expansion of the original Winston Churchill Memorial Building and is the largest private residence in the world. The exhibits in the Sultan's Memorial primarily include items used by His Majesty the Sultan and members of the royal family during important ceremonial events, such as the traditional royal chariot used during the current Sultan’s accession, bejeweled crowns, royal scepters, and photographs from royal events—effectively functioning as a royal museum.
