The Site of the Shicao Incident is located in Shicao Village, Yangxing Township, Yangqu County, covering an area of 200 square meters. In March 1942, in order to implement the county Party committee’s directives regarding work against the enemy, Zhao Fengyuan, Secretary of the Second District Committee of the Meng (County) Yang (Qu) Sub-bureau, Meng Peiyuan, Deputy Secretary of the District Committee, Gao Shan, District Chief, and five other comrades relocated from Pangjiazhuang to Shicao Village for a meeting. Due to a traitor’s betrayal, Captain Yamazaki of the Japanese troops stationed in Nanwenchuan, along with over thirty Japanese and puppet soldiers, surrounded the meeting site at the home of Liu Tiande. Zhao Fengyuan, Meng Peiyuan, Gao Shan, and other district and county officials sacrificed their lives heroically while trying to break through the encirclement. After the Shicao Incident, the village became a focal point for the Japanese army’s implementation of the “Three Alls” policy (kill all, loot all, burn all). For about a year, the Japanese forces in Nanwenchuan carried out more than ten “mopping-up” operations in Shicao Village, killing a total of 33 anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians. In April 1943, the Anti-Japanese Democratic Government of the Mengyang County Committee held a memorial service in Shicao Village for the martyrs who died. To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs and the victims, the village office erected a stone monument at the entrance of the village inscribed with the words “Eternal Glory to the Fallen Martyrs,” and engraved the names of the 33 victims on the monument. Due to years of weathering, the remaining cave dwellings at the site have collapsed.

Shicao Village: Shicao Village in Yangxing Township is 40 kilometers from the county seat, facing the Chengjia Highway. The village has 307 households and a population of 800, with 52 Party members. The total rural economic income is 1.9096 million yuan, and the per capita net income is 2,379 yuan. There are 26 motorized tricycles in the village, and 40% of the labor force works outside. The village currently has 4,852 mu of arable land, with crops mainly including millet, corn, and yam. Cash crops are mainly flax, sunflowers, and carrots.
