Attraction Introduction

Sur is located southeast of Muscat and can be reached by car in about three hours from there. It is a typical fishing port and fishing village.

Since records show that Sur was engaged in maritime trade with the East African coast as early as the 6th century AD, the area has long been famous for building traditional Arabic dhows. However, although all boats now use modern diesel engines, their appearance still adheres to the traditional style of all-wooden hulls. Throughout the year, many new boats under construction can be seen along Sur’s seaside.

It is said that finding an intact iron nail used for boat-building near the shipyards can bring unexpected good luck.
