Situated at the strategic gateway from the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean, Muscat is the capital and largest city of Oman. The Port of Muscat was an important trading hub between ancient China and Arab nations, and is the only port city along the maritime Silk Road that passed through the Arabian Peninsula.

Surrounded by mountains on three sides and bordered by the Arabian Sea to the southeast and the Gulf of Oman to the northeast, Muscat boasts picturesque landscapes and abundant tourism resources, making it a well-known tourist destination. The most iconic landmark in Muscat is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a prominent city symbol. Other notable mosques include the Ruwi Mosque, the Zawawi Mosque, as well as a small number of Shia mosques located throughout the city. Muscat is also home to several museums, such as the Museum of Omani Heritage, the National Museum of Oman, the Muscat Gate Museum, the Children’s Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Beit Al Zubair Museum, the Omani-French Museum, the Omani French Museum, the Museum of the Omani Armed Forces, and the Aquarium at the Omani Centre for Marine Sciences and Fisheries.
