Langkawi Geopark

Langkawi Geopark is a precious natural treasure and a natural asset of Malaysia, referring to a marine island area in the Andaman Sea region in northwestern Malaysia, adjacent to southern Thailand. In this island zone connected to the Andaman Sea, there are vast, boundless seascapes as well as mangrove riverbanks lined with peculiar granite rocks on both shores. The area is also home to a variety of naturally residing wildlife that often unexpectedly appears during visits, bringing one surprise after another.

Taking a boat tour through the geopark is the best option. Towering, lush green mountains line the shores, and you can spot oddly shaped granite rocks. The shoreline is covered with neat rows of mangroves, and it is said that the largest expanse of mangroves in Malaysia features twisted and intertwined roots. Among the dense greenery, you can often see the locally unique long-tailed monkeys. With enough luck, you might even spot brown and light gray eagles hidden within the mangroves flying across the sky from time to time. The eagle is a symbol and emblem of Langkawi, and seeing them living peacefully in this ecologically rich and beautiful geopark is a unique sight you absolutely won’t find elsewhere.

Langkawi Geopark also features the world’s most crooked suspension bridge, which is quite challenging. Interested visitors can give it a try—those who have crossed it say it’s a nerve-wracking experience, but despite the thrill and excitement, it’s an exhilarating adventure.
