Chunyang Palace (Third Batch Provincial-Level Protected Site)

Commonly known as Lüzu Temple. Originally a temple dedicated to Lü Dongbin, a Taoist priest of the Tang Dynasty. Lü Dongbin's Taoist name was Chunyangzi, hence the palace is also called Chunyang Palace. The site faces south and covers an area of 9,924 square meters. The palace is divided into four courtyards, with a four-pillar, three-story wooden memorial archway at the entrance. Major structures include the Lüzu Hall, a square single-room corridor pavilion, and the Wei Pavilion, surrounded by auxiliary rooms and brick-arched cave dwellings. The architectural layout is compact, with varied heights, twists and turns, and ingenious arrangement. Though it is a Taoist temple, it also features characteristics of garden architecture. Most of the existing buildings date back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

The Chunyang Palace complex has a rigorous layout and a rich variety of structures, including caves, stone work, pavilions, and halls, making it an outstanding and distinctive example of Taoist architectural culture. It is now open to the public as the Shanxi Art Museum.

In May 2013, Taiyuan Chunyang Palace was announced as part of the Seventh Batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
