Introduction

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, located 18 kilometers southwest of Pattaya, is also known as the Orchid Garden and is acclaimed as the most beautiful garden in Southeast Asia. The garden’s owner, a Thai woman named Nong Nooch, has a deep love for orchids. She has collected various species and cultivated them with great care throughout the garden—on the ground, displayed on bamboo racks, and hung from the ceilings of pavilions. There are more than 670 local varieties and over 300 foreign ones. The garden features butterfly orchids that resemble fluttering butterflies, bird-of-paradise flowers that look like cranes raising their heads, and dancing ladies’ orchids that seem like a group of young women in yellow dresses dancing amid green foliage, among many others. Not far from the garden lies a vast lawn surrounded by rows of topiary hedges shaped into spheres, umbrellas, and towers. There are lifelike tree sculptures such as fierce tigers, majestic lions, and peacocks spreading their tails, complemented by small bridges, flowing water, pavilions, and “green corridors” formed by climbing plants, all accented with a rich variety of flowers, creating a scene like a beautiful painting.
