Wenying Lake Park

Wenying Lake Park is located in the bustling commercial district of Taiyuan, covering an area of 119,000 square meters, with a water surface area of 40,000 square meters. It is commonly known as Haizibian Park. In Taiyuan, Haizibian originally referred to two puddles formed by rainwater from the southeastern half of the city. During the Qing Dynasty, because it was close to the imperial examination hall of Shanxi Province, someone gave this body of water the refined name Wenying Lake. Between the northern and southern sections of the lake, there is a small stone bridge. Legend has it that during the Tang Dynasty, Di Renjie passed over this bridge on his way to the imperial examinations and earned the title of top scholar, hence the bridge is called “Zhuangyuan Bridge” (Number One Scholar Bridge).
