Attraction Introduction

The Taiyuan Jin Merchant Museum is a thematic museum primarily showcasing the history of the Jin merchants and the commercial culture they created. It is another historic exhibit and landmark building of the culturally distinctive city, following the New North Gate of Yingze Park and the 'Splendid Taiyuan' Archway.

The exhibitions in the museum consist of five historical and cultural themes: the Origins of Jin Merchants, the History of Jin Merchants, Jin Merchant Finance, the Spirit of Jin Merchants, and Jin Merchant Culture. There are over 300 groups and approximately 500 pieces of cultural relics and exhibits, with an exhibition line stretching 400 meters. Through modern display techniques such as sound, light, and electricity, the museum presents the historical journey of the Jin merchants from their rise to their dominance across the seas and fame beyond borders — a three-dimensional portrayal reflecting various aspects of Jin merchants over 500 years, including society, economy, culture, and folklore.

The Taiyuan Jin Merchant Museum is located on the central axis of Yingze Park, built on the original site of the old greenhouse. It lies to the south of the Peony Garden, north of the Scripture Depository Square, with the east side adjacent to the park’s east gate and the west facing the park’s main planned pathway. Covering an area of 7,850 square meters, the total construction area is 4,988 square meters, including 3,560 square meters for the exhibition area and 850 square meters for the reception area. The museum is divided into three parts, with the central section being the main exhibition area, facing east and backed by the west. It includes, in sequence, the Archway, the Mountain Gate, the First Courtyard, and the Second Courtyard. Within the Second Courtyard are structures such as a stage, a stele pavilion, a stone archway, an offering hall, and the main hall.
