Gyuyoungjeon Cultural Village

Gyuyoung was a brilliant mid-tier writer in the Korean literary scene before liberation and a representative figure in Korean short stories. He moved to Seoul shortly after birth and didn’t return to his hometown until he was 23 in 1931. It was there that two of his rural-themed works, such as “Beyond the Valley” and “Camellia Blossoms,” among others, were born. His hometown is now Gyuyoungjeon Cultural Village, which is also a well-known tourist destination in Korea today.

Gyuyoungjeon Cultural Village is located at 868-1 Jeongni 3-ri, Sindong-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea, and is known for the Gyuyoung Memorial Hall. The memorial hall was renovated from the former residence of Mr. Gyuyoung and still houses his bronze statue, as well as relics from his childhood such as an old mill, pavilion, and lotus pond. Through various forms and methods, it recreates the inner worlds of his novels. Additionally, the scenery in Gyuyoungjeon Cultural Village is beautiful, making it a great place for leisure activities such as walking and hiking.
