Taiyuan No. 5 Middle School History Museum

The Taiyuan No. 5 Middle School History Museum is located in the Qinnian Building of Taiyuan No. 5 Middle School on Qingnian Road, Yingze District. The predecessor of Taiyuan No. 5 Middle School was the Shanxi Public Middle School, founded in 1906 on the former site of the Qing Dynasty Examination Hall. In 1912, it was renamed the Shanxi Provincial Model Middle School, in 1913 the Shanxi Provincial First Middle School, in 1935 the Shanxi Provincial Taiyuan Middle School, and in 1953 the Shanxi Province Taiyuan City No. 5 Middle School. Taiyuan No. 5 Middle School is a school with a proud revolutionary tradition. Early communists such as Gao Junyu, Wang Zhenyi, He Chang, Wang Ying, Zhang Youqing, and Zhang Shuping, as well as veteran proletarian revolutionaries like Peng Zhen, all studied at this school. The Taiyuan Socialist Youth League, the first party cell and the first party branch of the Communist Party of China in Shanxi Province, were both established here. The Taiyuan Local Executive Committee of the Socialist Youth League, the temporary provincial committee headquarters of the Communist Party of China, and the Southern Committee of the Communist Party of China in Taiyuan were also founded here. Founding Major General Gu JingSheng, social scientists Du Renshi and Fan Ruoyu, and artist Dong Shouping all began their careers at this school. In 2006, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Taiyuan No. 5 Middle School, the History Museum was built in the Qinnian Building, featuring busts of Peng Zhen, He Chang, and Gao Junyu in bronze.
