The Seoul Museum of Art is located in the heart of Seoul, nestled between Deoksugung Palace and Gyeonghuigung Palace in Jeong-dong. Established in 1988, it focuses on modern Korean art and showcases a variety of artistic styles. It is a public art museum that combines specialization with accessibility, capable of hosting high-level special exhibitions and offering citizens the opportunity to appreciate high-level art and culture.

The museum primarily exhibits representative works of art from Korea and abroad, and its uniquely designed interiors are also a major draw. It has six exhibition rooms, including permanent, special, thematic, and sculpture galleries. Among them, the Cheon Kyung-ja Gallery on the second floor is particularly unique, featuring 93 works by Cheon Kyung-ja, one of Korea’s most renowned female painters. By viewing her works created during her study abroad period, self-portraits, figure paintings, and landscapes, visitors can gain insight into the artist’s life journey and personal experiences. There is also a distinctive art experience space in the basement level that can accommodate up to 200 people. This multifunctional entertainment space is ideal for enjoying films, music, videos, various performances, and pantomime shows.

The Seoul Museum of Art also houses a café where you can enjoy tea while reflecting on your visit, as well as an art workshop where you can purchase a variety of painting supplies. Even if you don’t buy anything, simply strolling around the space is a delightful experience.
