The Seoul Museum of History is located in Jongno District, Seoul. Established in 2002, it primarily showcases the development of Seoul from prehistoric times to the present. Through the exhibits on display, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the city — how it came into being and evolved into the vibrant metropolis it is today.

The Seoul Museum of History features permanent exhibitions that highlight the lives and changes of Seoul’s residents, mainly showcasing the appearance of Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty and the daily life of modern Seoul citizens. It also displays a variety of donated artifacts that bear witness to Seoul’s history and culture. The collection includes historical books, medical dictionaries, hairpins, pipes, lacquered boxes, sculptures, pottery, traditional clothing, paintings, astronomical charts, city models, trams from the early days of the nation’s founding, and more. The museum also offers a wide range of hands-on and cultural activities tailored for children, families, and adults. There is a café and a gift shop inside the museum where visitors can purchase their favorite souvenirs after their tour.
