Hakgojae is located at 70 Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is a gallery that perfectly blends traditional Korean architecture with modern Western design. Since its establishment in 1988, it has hosted numerous exhibitions themed around “learning from the past to innovate for the future,” bringing a fresh and exciting energy to today’s art scene. Situated on the culturally rich Munhwa Road, which is home to many galleries and cafes, it blends harmoniously with the surrounding natural scenery and has gradually become one of Seoul’s most popular galleries.

Hakgojae Gallery frequently hosts exhibitions that embody the spirit of “learning from the past to innovate for the future,” as well as showcases of works by overseas artists. A typical example is the special exhibition “Rediscovering Modern Korean Painting and Calligraphy.” This exhibition focused on displaying works by 37 modern artists who were active from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, including those by Heungseon Daewongun (1820–1898, father of King Gojong, the 26th monarch of Joseon, and a politician and painter) and Kim Gyu-jin (1868–1933, a modern Korean painter), attracting significant attention from visitors.

In addition to organizing various exhibitions, Hakgojae Gallery actively participates in many distinctive art festivals overseas, continuously pursuing its unique spiritual world and values.
