Seoul Sejong Center for the Performing Arts

The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts is a large-scale comprehensive arts facility located in Jongno District, Seoul, South Korea. Named after King Sejong the Great of the Joseon Dynasty, it spans a total area of 53,202 square meters, making it the largest cultural and arts center in the Seoul region. The Sejong Center broke ground in 1974, was completed in 1978, and opened to the public, greatly advancing the development of Seoul’s cultural and artistic endeavors. The 1980 Miss Universe finals were held here.

The Sejong Center consists of several major theaters, smaller theaters, halls, and a convention center equipped with simultaneous interpretation in seven languages. The main theater is outfitted with state-of-the-art sound and stage equipment from around the world and has a capacity of 3,000 spectators. The smaller theater features an interesting two-tiered design and accommodates 442 guests. In addition, the Sejong Center houses various art galleries that comprehensively showcase different aspects of Korean social life, cultural traditions, and the development of the arts, offering visitors deeper insights into both traditional Korean art and contemporary artistic evolution.
