Samcheong-dong Cultural Street

Once featured in the American travel magazine Travel+Leisure, Samcheong-dong is a street full of artistry. Galleries converted from traditional Korean houses, modern-style cafes, and lesser-known but long-standing restaurants... are arranged in a scattered fashion along the ginkgo-lined street, attracting the gaze of pedestrians and waiting for customers. You can reach Samcheong-dong by heading north from Gyeongbokgung or via the ArtSonje Center in Anguk-dong.

Just past Gyeongbokgung a little, across the street, there are art spaces such as the International Gallery and the Modern Gallery that host exhibitions of works from around the world, as well as modern galleries like 쿡엔하임 and Gallery Cafe that also function as restaurants. In addition, there are unique shops such as Luielle, which sells various types of hats, and Puhinik, which sells traditional Korean tableware.

Venturing into the small alleys of Samcheong-dong, you’ll find small yet exquisitely crafted museums irregularly scattered in the quiet corners of the neighborhood, including the Jewelry Museum, the Owl Museum, the Tibet Museum, and the Chinese Tea Museum.

The various types of eateries gathered here—wine bars, live music bars, and Korean royal court cuisine restaurants—are also infused with an artistic flair, with unique interior designs and décor.

In addition to Gyeongbokgung, the Folklore Museum, and the Old Palace Museum, nearby Samcheong-dong also features attractions such as the Prime Minister’s Official Residence and Cheongwadae (the Blue House).

Transportation

Exit at Exit 2 of Gwanghwamun Station on Seoul Subway Line 5, take Bus No. 11, and get off in front of Samcheong Police Station. Samcheong Police Station is located at the entrance end of Samcheong-dong Road.

Exit at Exit 5 of Gyeongbokgung Station on Seoul Subway Line 3, cross Gwanghwamun, walk along the road by the wall of Gyeongbokgung, and you’ll see the starting point of Samcheong-dong Road, which is marked. It takes about 10–15 minutes on foot from the subway exit to the start of Samcheong-dong Road.
