Yugawa Onsen is situated at the foot of Mount Yakeyama near Hachimantai in Akita Prefecture in Japan’s northeastern region. It is internationally known for the high acidity and flow rate of its waters, as well as for being one of the few sources of Hokutolite. It is a genuine hot spring health destination. With a flow rate of up to 150 liters per second and a temperature of 98 degrees Celsius, it boasts the highest water discharge among all hot springs in Japan. Moreover, the pH level of the water remains around 1.1, making it one of Japan’s most acidic hot springs. Its strong bactericidal properties are effective against various types of bacteria, thus aiding in therapeutic healing, which is why it is recognized as a true hot spring health resort.

Yugawa Onsen is not only highly popular for its health benefits but also globally renowned for producing the rare Hokutolite. Named after Beitou in Taiwan, Hokutolite is a scarce radioactive mineral found only in Beitou, Taiwan, and Yugawa, Japan. It forms near thousand-year-old hot springs, absorbing natural energy over time and emitting natural negative ions. It is believed to enhance mental activity, boost energy, improve sleep quality, lower blood pressure, support heart function, and purify air.
