Chiyogasaki Park

Chiyogasaki Park is a lush green park located in the city center of Akita, in Japan’s northeastern Tohoku region, on the site of the former Kubota Castle. During the Edo period, this was the residence of the Satake clan, the lords of the Akita Domain. The park still preserves many historical relics, including the Jiro Inari Shrine, the ruins of Kubota Castle, and the Satake Family History Museum; though weathered by time and restored by modern hands, they still exude the charm of ancient sites.

Chiyogasaki Park is an oasis in the bustling heart of Akita and one of the city’s most beloved leisure spots. The park is home to 830 cherry trees, including some 110-year-old Somei Yoshino (a major cultivated variety of Japanese cherry blossoms). When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the park transforms into a sea of pink, and decorative lanterns light up the area at night, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. In addition, the park’s azaleas, peonies, and water lilies are also highly popular. In early summer, when various flowers bloom throughout the park, set against the backdrop of its classic historical architecture, Chiyogasaki Park appears even more serene, tranquil, and beautiful.
