Mt. Mozawa is a volcano towering on the border between Niigata Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture, standing at an elevation of 2,145 meters. Its flat mountaintop features an approximately 4-square-kilometer plateau wetland, which is a well-known habitat for alpine flora. The eastern foothills plain, along with the Mozawa Ski Resort, Kagura Sansa Ski Resort, and Mikuni Ski Resort, form a large ski area that is highly popular among skiing enthusiasts.

What makes Niigata Prefecture most attractive in winter is its abundant snowfall, making it a renowned ski destination in Japan. Among its many ski resorts, the Mozawa Ski Resort stands out as one of the best. With its highest point, Takeyama, at 1,789 meters and the lowest at 900 meters, the resort has an elevation difference of 889 meters and offers 27 ski runs. Although the longest run is only 4 kilometers, each slope is wide, reducing stress for skiers. In addition to its exceptional natural conditions, the Mozawa Ski Resort also boasts complete facilities, including four gondola lifts, nine high-speed chairlifts, 16 regular lifts, and a ski resort village, ensuring visitors have no worries about accommodation and dining.

Not only is skiing in winter highly appealing, but hiking on Mt. Mozawa during spring, summer, and autumn is also famous. Especially in summer, the alpine plants around the mountaintop bloom beautifully, although their blooming period is short, making them particularly precious.
