Shibata City

Shibata City is a city in the Sakushiro region of Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Established in 1947, it is home to Keiwa Gakuen University. The city's goldfish float is a traditional Japanese toy that features a goldfish lantern mounted on a wheeled cart and is the last remaining form of its kind in the world.

Shibata Castle is an ancient castle in Shibata City. During the Edo period, it served as the seat of the Shibata Domain. In spring, it becomes one of the city’s most renowned cherry blossom viewing spots. The Fukiya Kokichi Memorial Museum is a must-visit attraction. Fukiya Kokichi was a famous Japanese lyrical painter, illustrator, and poet. The museum houses and displays around 800 original paintings and manuscripts by Fukiya Kokichi, whose modern-style artworks were immensely popular at the time. Other worthwhile sites include the Shimmyou Shrine, Fukushou Temple, Tsukigaoka Onsen, Choudou Temple, Houkou Temple, Raikou Temple, Shibata Nishi Park, Sugaya Temple, and Suwa Shrine.
