Kamo City

Kamo City is a city located in the central part of Niigata Prefecture, Japan, known as "Little Kyoto of Echigo." It was officially established as a city on March 10, 1954. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and bordering the Niigata Plain to the west, the city is graced by the Kamo River, which originates from the Sakuradake mountain range within the prefectural nature park. The harmonious blend of river and mountain scenery creates an elegantly tranquil northern cityscape.

Kamo City aims to be a beautiful, prosperous, comfortable, and convenient place to live, and continues to strive toward that goal. Known as "Little Kyoto of Northern Echigo," the city has maintained this reputation to this day. The historic Seiryu Shrine is situated on Mount Kamo in Kamo City. In addition to the shrine, Mount Kamo also gained some fame in the Tohoku region for hosting an annual camellia competition. The mountain is home to over 2,000 camellia plants of more than 200 varieties, along with nearly 50,000 wild camellias. Kamo Mountain Park features various recreational facilities for citizens, including a large slide tower measuring 150 meters in length and 32 meters in height, as well as numerous sculptures in diverse shapes and materials — considered among the finest in Japan. The park attracts numerous visitors every spring who come to admire the blossoms and enjoy the scenery.
