Bouma National Heritage Park was established in 1990, primarily to protect the tropical rainforest and its rich biodiversity on Taveuni Island, as well as to sustain the livelihoods of villagers living near the park. The park covers 80% of Taveuni Island, encompassing approximately 150 square kilometers of tropical rainforest and coastal woodland. It is renowned for its breathtaking waterfalls, forest hiking trails, and coastal walks.

The stunning waterfalls of Bouma National Heritage Park gained worldwide fame after serving as a filming location for the Hollywood blockbuster *The Blue Lagoon*. This is a pristine destination where visitors can explore forest hiking trails to witness its iconic waterfalls. There are three Tavoro Waterfalls near the visitor center, each with cascading waters that form natural swimming pools. The first waterfall, standing at 24 meters high, is just a 10-minute walk along a flat path from the visitor center. The second waterfall requires about 30 to 40 minutes of hiking; although smaller, it also offers a lovely natural pool. The trail to this one is steeper but features built steps and railings. Additionally, exploring Bouma National Heritage Park allows visitors to encounter many endemic animals and plants, making for a delightful and enriching experience.
